I want to just briefly introduce you to a new fashion-design service that we are undertaking.
We take individuals (all ages, sexes, shapes and sizes) and model a virtual character from a set of self-portrait digital photographs -- the result being a true-to-life digital form that can then be "clothed" with anything that the owner of that personal model cares to "try on". We create these true-to-life virtual representations by having our clients self-photograph in a stance similar to Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man -- arms stretched out at the sides, 90 degrees to the body, and feet set about a foot apart. The client dresses in bra and panties (women) or jockey shorts (men), wearing a Seamstress Measuring Tape around the waist so that appropriate scale can be determined. With as few as three photographs taken from different angles we can then create a perfectly proportioned model of our client, true to all facial features, hair-style and color, and, most importantly, body contours. The model then resides on our web-site, password protected so that the resultant self-image is available only to our client and those with whom she/he cares to share the site.
Participating design houses can then provide a "library" of their wares to the web-site from which our client can select items to "try on". The VR models are animated so that they can follow several different preset paths (eg: walking back and forth, spinning around, sitting, moving arms about, etc.). In other words our client can view herself/himself as though a bystander to "a day at the fitting-room". They have a pure and true perspective of how any given piece of apparel or ensembles of several pieces suit them, because they see themselves as the model. Once they have selected clothing, clients can then make their purchases on-line forwarding their true and precise measurements to the appropriate design house or fashion store.
In order to create the library of selections, we need to create a model of each individual piece in the participating design house's collection. For each garment modeled we charge a fee of $150.00 (quantity pricing can be quoted for multiple items). Once a garment has been modeled it will remain on the web-site until the design-house/fashion store requests that it be removed. The garment can be controlled size-wise to preset standards -- if an individual is un-fit-able regarding a specific garment, they will be informed that "there is no size match".
What are the advantages to design houses? 1. they have a virtual fitting room for their entire product line. 2. orders are placed that are guaranteed to be precise and accurate from a size standpoint. 3. they eliminate returns for "size" concerns. 4. they have an ever-expanding clientele base. 5. they receive short-term feed-back on their creations directly from their client base. 6. for those who do one-of-a-kind custom creations, all of the physical vagaries of their customer will be precisely known.
Where are we going with this concept? As our nascent e-store expands we plan to create virtual runway fashion shows to introduce new product lines (these events, while entirely "virtual", will be practically indistinguishable from a real event -- the lighting, the figures, the motion -- all will be indiscernibly "real". These "virtual" events will feature music, interviews with designers, and blogs from noted fashion critics and, because they will be archived, they will be viewable at any time. The first-release for each new event will have prize drawings for registered viewers. We also hope to create a virtual on-line museum that, as its product line expands, comes to represent "the best of" for featured designers. Additionally, we will sponsor competitions for up-and-coming designers from schools such as FIDM, the Art Institutes, and the Katherine Gibbs School.
I am hoping that I have created a little excitement in you for our project. If you wish additional detail or would like to chat, email at clouds@gotsky.com or call at 805-474-8073.
